President’s Message
It has been a tough winter.  Many of our members are presently experiencing extreme cases of cabin fever.  The only known cure for this malady is a few sunny days in a row.  Still there are a few things to do indoors while we are waiting for a break in the weather.
The club has meetings every Thursday at 1:30 in the clubhouse.  Even if you are not a meeting person, you will, nonetheless, most likely enjoy the entertaining and informative speakers featured at our meetings.  If you have never attended a meeting or haven’t been to one lately, check it out.  Yes, we do a little business and tell a few bad jokes but not enough to make anyone suffer.  Even if meetings are not your thing, other weekly indoor activities include pinochle, bridge and bowling.
There are a few members who give there all to keep the Club going . Joe Ade is one member who fits that description. Until recently, Joe was a Board Member, the Chair of the Membership Committee and organized the Tournament of Champions.  Joe has given notice that he is resigning those positions.  Joe’s position on the Board will be taken by John Hempstead. We still need someone to fill the important role of Membership Chair.  I would ask that anyone interested in this position to please contact me.  The Tournament of Champions was Joe’s pet project.  If anyone is interested in continuing this event, please contact Neil Weis.
Joe’s enthusiastic and dedicated work on behalf of the Club certainly needs to be recognized.  Congratulations to Joe are also appropriate for his successful fund-raising effort on behalf of a fellow Marine.  Due to Joe’s efforts, a local Marine veteran who took part in the Battle for IWO JIMA was able to return to that historic site to remember the 70th anniversary of that battle.
This year, the Club is celebrating its 60th anniversary.  Already there are plans in the works to make a presentation at the Club’s Spring Luncheon.  Stay tuned for more information.

AAA Driving Course – April 16th (Tentative)

In December, Robert Del Sordo from the AAA of South Jersey presented information about a driving safety course offered by the AAA.  Certain club members who have taken the course spoke highly of it.  Besides helping all of us to improve on our safe driving habits, the course has some financial benefits.  By law, persons completing the course are entitled to a minimum 5% reduction in the liability insurance part of their car insurance premium.  Certain companies will give a higher discount. Additionally, persons with points against their license could receive a 2 point reduction upon completing the course.
Mr. Del Sordo offered to return to the clubhouse to teach the course.  The tentative date is 4/16/15 at 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the clubhouse.   Spouses are welcome.  The reason that the date is tentative is that the AAA requires a minimum of 15 attendees before they will give the course.  The fee for the course is $30.00 per person. Checks should be made out to “AAA of South Jersey” and mailed to Dennis Kille at 8 Chatham Drive, Voorhees, NJ 08043 or given to me at a meeting.  So that we can know if we have the necessary participation, checks must be received by 3/20/15. This will give us enough time to inform the membership in time for the next newsletter.  If less than 15 people sign up for the course, all checks will be returned.

Dues for 2015 – Last Call
Dues were due on December 31, 2014.  As of this date, we have approximately 25 members who have not paid.
Dues must be in no later than March 15th.  Get them in “NOW”. Make a check out to the “65 Club” for only $20.00 and send it to Walt Baker Unit # 209, 400 N. Haddon Ave, Haddonfield, NJ 08033-1736. Phone calls have already been made to those who are delinquent. Delinquency letters will be sent out shortly.  If dues are not received by March 15th, those who have not paid will be dropped from membership in the 65 Club.

Feed My Starving Children Event
April 18th
Once again the 65 Club will participate in this excellent event hosted by the Haddonfield Presbyterian Church on April 17-18. Founded in 1987, Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and they ship these meals to nearly 70 countries around the world.
Most of the packing is done on Saturday so once registration opens, we will secure a time slot (hopefully 10-12pm) for our participation. In the two-hour slot you will spend about 10 minutes being briefed in the church and then move to the school auditorium where the packing stations are set up. There are other jobs to be done in addition to packing food bags e.g. making labels and distributing product to the packing stations. So even if you can’t stand up for 1 ½ hours or so, there are still jobs you can do sitting down.
Club members who have participated in the past have all felt that it was a rewarding experience. If you are interested, please contact Bernie Schaming at 428-0932 or bschaming@comcast.net. We need some idea of the number of participants to register as a group.

60th Anniversary
Francis A. DuVernois and the former Elizabeth Hawboldt were married March 19, 1955, at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. They met at a teenage weekly dance in Pittsfield where Betsy lived.  At the time, Fran was a junior majoring in chemistry at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. Fran was in the ROTC and when he graduated in 1954 was granted a commission in the U.S. Army. Fran and Betsy were married just before Fran was sent to Germany and assigned to the 6th Cavalry Division. Betsy followed shortly and they were there for two years. Upon his return and discharge from the Army, Fran began working for the Campbell Soup Company in the Quality Control area.  Progressing through various management positions, and after numerous changes in locations, he retired after 40 years as Vice President – Global Manufacturing.
Betsy and Fran have six children, four boys, two girls and thirteen grandchildren.

Recent Bowling Event
At a recent bowling, fund raiser, for Saint Anthony's in Camden, several 65 Club members attended along with their wives. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, both club members and their wives, and as a result several new bowlers joined the weekly Friday morning event at Mount Laurel Lanes at 9:00 AM. We hope they continue to come out.
This is an open invitation to the wives of 65 Club members. They are welcome to take part on Friday mornings. The ladies and the gentlemen bowl on separate lanes so not to embarrass the men.
So if any of you wives have interest, feel free to contact Sally Howley at, 428-0191. The cost is $6.55 which includes three games of bowling, the use of a ball, and the use of shoes, plus they provide coffee, tea and pastries.
It’s your Move
If any club members are interested in playing chess, Bill Brown volunteered to bring his board and pieces for anyone to use.  If you have interest contact Bill at 429-4368 or billbrown08033@aol.com  and he will tell you where they are. If you want to learn, he can provide some basic instructions (very basic).
If you have never played, it is an exciting game not a boring one as the cartoons depict.
If anyone has a checker board that they would care to share, that might also provide additional enjoyment for some club members.
With a little dedication on someone’s part, perhaps a regular chess or checker activity can be established. Remember; IT's YOUR MOVE.

Some Senior Truths

1 Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
2. Nothing stinks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
5. Was learning cursive really necessary?
6. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
7. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind-of tired.
8. Bad decisions make good stories.
9. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
10. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blu-ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
11. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Microsoft Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.
12. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Light than Kay.
13. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
14. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
15. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
16. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.
17. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.  Ladies.....Quit Laughing.
18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
Life just gets better as you get older doesn’t it?
