President’s Message

Now it is back to the start of our Bridge, Pinochle and Bowling for the Fall, Winter and Spring Seasons. Our Golf outings are still in full swing but numbered. Even these players will be enjoying the cooler days up until the end of our playing season in November.
As we all get back into our grove, we also get to catch up with each other with some lively discussions on the success of the Phillies and Eagles. We also can look forward to upcoming trips following on from our August trip to the Phillies.
September brings us to the Flea Market on September 15th and the Indian King Beer Tasting Fundraiser on September 22nd. So, clean out your closets… and work up a thirst.
As for our upcoming weekly meetings, Jay has us fully loaded. We start with a September full of interesting sessions…
9/6/2018     Ronald McDonald House
9/13/2018   business meeting
9/20/2018   Detective novels & movies
9/27/2018   In Home Service
10/4/2018   Bayada Home Care
Remember that apples are in season now, so plan an apple picking trip, or just look for Jersey apple, they are in season now…
One last, little known fact, September 1st is ‘National No rhyme (nor Reason) Day’.  I’m not sure what to do on that day, I guess whatever I do, there will be no rhyme nor reason for it.

Lions Club Flea Market – Sep 15th
Once again, the 65 Club will participate in the Lions Club flea market on Saturday September 15th (rain date 22rd). If you happen to be cleaning out the basement, garage or closet and have items that are useable that you would like to donate to the Club for the flea market, we would be happy to have them. Items that we don’t sell are donated to Goodwill or equivalent organization. This is an opportunity to get rid of items you no longer want or need. We cannot accept large items such as furniture; these items generally don’t sell at the flea market. You can drop items off at the Club at our regular Thursday meetings. If you are unable to drop items off or need assistance contact Jim Dunn at (856) 858-1145 to arrange pickup of items.

65 CLUB WILL STEP BACK IN TIME – Oct 16th
On Tuesday, October 16, the charter bus will depart from Wedgewood Swim Club at 8:30 AM.
We will head to the Mercer Museum in Doylestown PA. We will enter this six-story concrete castle, which was completed in 1916, to house Henry Mercer's vast collection of early American everyday objects. You will find, more than 60 early American crafts and trades represented, including woodworking, metalworking, agricultural, textile, and transportation tools.
Next on the schedule is lunch at the Plumstead Inn where the menu choices will be chicken parmesan, roast beef with mashed potatoes & vegetable and broiled salmon with rice and vegetable. After lunch, we will head to Fonthill Castle, which was built between 1908 and 1912, entirely of hand mixed concrete. Mercers unbelievable dream home has more than 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces, 32 staircases, and more than 200 windows of varying shapes and sizes. Around 3:30-4:00 PM, we will depart for home.
The total cost for this full day package, which includes admission to two castles, a full lunch as well as luxury transportation, is only $80 per person. Checks should be made out to the Haddonfield 65 Club and mailed to 110 Rhoads Ave. Haddonfield, NJ, 08033.
Please include your phone number on the checks. Seating is limited.
September Song
Recently I was listening to a Frank Sinatra album that I hadn’t played in quite a while. His version of “September Song” gave me a chill that it never had before.  When he crooned “It’s a long, long way from May to December, but the days grow short when you reach September … the days dwindle down to a precious few … September … November….” I knew that it was not just a love song. It was a Life Song.
Of course, people don’t like to dwell much on their days “dwindling down.”   That’s why “Old Blue Eyes” also had tunes like “Young At Heart” and “The Best Is Yet To Come.” Taken together the three songs remind us to stay engaged with our friends and our community to continue to make positive contributions to our corner of the world and make it a better place.
That’s where I think the 65 Club provides great opportunities to do just that. Not only does being a member of the club help you make new friends, go on interesting trips, and participate in your favorite games from pinochle and bridge to bowling and golf. The Club also helps you learn new things about the community from our weekly speakers. Perhaps most importantly it gives you an opportunity to help people in need with everything from a ride to the doctor to raising money for worthy causes. I remember last year standing outside the Haddonfield Acme (in a snowstorm!) ringing a bell to collect for the Red Cross.
The 65 Club and its varied activities and community service helps its members to stay “Young at Heart.” And I for one believe that it has truly made Haddonfield “My Kind of Town”!

Activities
Bowling, Bridge and Pinochle have been active all summer. The 2018/2019 tournament season is just around the corner. Tournaments will begin the week of September 10th, the week after Labor Day. Come on out and join the fun in one of these activities. Bridge is held on Mondays at 1pm, pinochle on Wednesdays at 12:30pm and bowling is on Fridays at Laurel Lanes on Rt. 73 at 9:15. The Art of Editing Is Dead
These sentences with all the BLOOPERS actually (supposedly) appeared in church bulletins or were announced in church services:

● The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals.
● The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water.' The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.'
● Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.
● Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help.
● Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.
● For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.
● Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.
● Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.
● A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow. -
● At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be 'What Is Hell?' Come early and listen to our choir practice.
● Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.
● Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered.
● The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.
● Potluck supper Sunday at 5:00 PM - prayer and medication to follow.
● The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.
● This evening at 7 PM there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.
● Ladies Bible Study will be held Thursday morning at 10 AM. All ladies are invited to lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the B. S. is done.
● The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the Congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.
● Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM. Please use the back door.
