President’s Message
The warm weather we have been longing for is finally here, however it's just a matter of time until I hear that famous phrase “Is it hot enough for you?”
I want to thank Bob Parsons for all his work in organizing our annual Ladies Luncheon. Once again it went off without a hitch. The excellent entertainment portion was arranged by Bill Brown. Soloist Anna Calemme's performance was a wonderful smorgasbord of Italian favorites. Her performance was rather lengthy and unfortunately many members had to leave before her performance ended. It will be good to remember next year that seniors (although in theory have nowhere to go but all day to get there, as I have quite often been reminded), had issue with the length of the luncheon. The trophy presentations, the commissioner's comments and entertainment did cause the luncheon to be quite long.
If I'm allowed to segue into a different direction, and of course I'm allowed, after all I'm the one writing. When the day's festivities came to an end and looking at the now empty chairs. I thought who will remember who sat in them? I began to think of those chairs as a metaphor for life. I don't know why. I'm at that period in life I often reminisce. We marry, buy a home, raise children, live a full and rich life and then we are expected to leave, to move on, possibly to be close to our now adult children and have unfettered access to grandchildren. Certainly not a bad thing! Sometimes we have to leave because of health problems or we move because of financial issues. Often, we just crave the warmth of the south. My point though, when we leave our “chair”, we are forced to decide what is or ever was important. We decide what memories to take and what to leave behind. Downsizing; a harrowing thought! All the little things that made my house a home, precious memories of joy, sadness, regrets and of accomplishments are left behind. But of course, we have to leave our “chair” and let someone else sit.  As I ponder what goes or stays, I think, I'll sit in my “chair” a little longer or as dad used to say “until the fat lady sings.” I assume you can tell this is the conundrum I now face, but don't we all? One thing is for sure though, no matter where I go, I'll always be here.
Summer's a lazy time and a busy one. There are graduations, outdoor parties, baseball and, of course the beach. It's all done in 100 days. You blink and it's Halloween. So, I want to keep you abreast of what's going on with the 65 club this summer.
On the fourth of July a group of us are going to strut down Kings Highway holding our banner. we need at least 18 members to help with our parade exhibit. It will be award winning, I hope. On July 9 we have a trip to a national historic landmark, the famous Laurel Hill cemetery and Girard College then lunch. Seating is extremely limited. If you like baseball. you can join us on the bus to see the Phillies play the San Francisco Giants on July 30th. We end our summer with a trip to the Brandywine and Hagley museum In September.
All trip details are in accompanying newsletter.
Of course, if you can't travel with us on our trips and march with us on July 4 you'll want to stop by on Thursdays and hear the speakers that Saul Resnick has lined up. The speaker list is amazing

Six Tiny Stories

(1} Once all villagers decided to pray for rain, on the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.
That's FAITH

{2} When you throw a baby in the air, she laughs because she knows you will catch her.
That's TRUST

{3} Every night we go to bed, without any assurance of being alive the next morning but still we set the alarms to wake up.
That's HOPE

{4} We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.
That's CONFIDENCE

{5} We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children.
That's LOVE

{6} On an old man's shirt was written a sentence 'I am not 91 years old ... I am sweet 16 with 75 years’ experience.
That's ATTITUDE

Have a good Month and live your life like the six tiny stories!
