President’s Message

I have so many things to talk
about. I'll try not to bore you.
In March the Haddonfield
65 Club visited Fort Mifflin which is a not famous enough federal historic
site. What a wonderful excursion! Located just north of the Philadelphia
Airport, Fort Mifflin is a revolutionary war era fort that was instrumental in
stopping Great Britain's attempt to fortify occupied Philadelphia. Although the
fort was eventually taken, the delay gave George Washington time to flee to
Valley Forge. Of course, we all know the history that followed. This Fort,
along with Forts Mercer & Billings were instrumental in allowing Thomas
Jefferson's great democratic experiment to blossom into the USA of today.
Aside from
telling all what a great time it was (lunch too), on the ride back I thought of
a line in an article I recently read “The Best Math you can learn is how to
calculate the future cost of your current decisions.“ The
soldiers manning the Fort may have not had much schooling in math. But they
knew enough that the longer they held out, the cost of their current decision
would be repaid in an America framed by our founding fathers that followed the
tenets of the Declaration of Independence.
It's called opportunity costs and it's
the basis of how we live our lives. In economics it's numerical; a dollar can
buy but one spending opportunity. The opportunity of using that dollar for one
thing precludes using it for another. In one's life, it's time. How we
spend our time day to day, week to week, month to month and so on. Our time is
our most precious commodity and as we age it becomes priceless! Enjoy
your time with those you love, both friends and family.
I'm sorry I
got serious and will try not to do it again.
On May 9th
the 65 club is hosting our annual Ladies Spring Luncheon. This is an
opportunity to enjoy not only the beautiful music of song stylist Anna
Calemme, to break bread at Tavistock and to applaud the efforts of our
sportsmen and card players but also to spend that precious commodity, TIME
with our friends and neighbors. Hope to see you there.
I'm all out of
time so I'll see you next month.

Some thoughts:
“To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act”
“All prosperity begins in the mind and is dependent only upon the full
use of our creative imagination”
Phillies Game – July 30th

The
65 Club will greet Bryce Harper and
the rest of the Phillies from the field-level Section 138 seats on Tuesday, July
30th. The Phillies will take on San Francisco Giants. Note that this is on the third base
side so that the setting sun will not be in your eyes
NOTE: Arrangements
have been made to permit those who have difficulty with steps to have seats in
the top row of the section to avoid the stairs. If you required this service,
you must let Bill Brown know in advance since special tickets are required.
Our charter bus will depart from the Bancroft parking lot
adjacent to the high school, at 5:00 PM.
We are fortunate to be able to keep the cost the same as
last year, only $50.00 per person.
Just send your check to the Haddonfield 65 Club, 110 Rhoads
Ave, Haddonfield NJ. Please put your phone number on the check. Your check will
reserve your seat. First, come first served. If you have questions, contact
Bill Brown at billbrown08033@aol.com,
or call 856 429 4368

For those who
love the philosophy of ambiguity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of English!
● Don't sweat
the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.
● One
tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.
● If man evolved
from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys and apes?
● I went to a
bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "where's the self- help section?".
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
● What if
there were no hypothetical questions?
● If someone with
multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage
situation?
● Is there
another word for synonym?
● Where do
forest rangers go to "get away from it all?"
● What do you
do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?
● If a
parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages?
● Why do they
lock gas station bathrooms? Are they afraid someone will clean them?
● If a turtle
doesn't have a shell, is he homeless or naked?
● Can
vegetarians eat animal crackers?
● Why do they
put braille on the drive-through bank machines?
● How do they
get deer to cross the road only at those road signs?
● What was
the best thing before sliced bread?
● One nice
thing about egotists: they don't talk about other people.
● Does the
little mermaid wear an algebra?
● Do infants
enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery?
● How is it
possible to have a civil war?
● If one synchronized
swimmer drowns, do the rest drown too?
● If you ate
both pasta and antipasto, would you still be hungry?
● I f you try
to fail, and succeed, which have you done?
● Why is it
called tourist season if we can't shoot at them?
● Why is
there an expiration date on sour cream?
