President’s Message
The hurricane season may have passed us.  Unfortunately, Houston, The Caribbean, Florida, and Puerto Rico were not so lucky. Mexico had an earth quake.  Then, there was the Las Vegas tragedy followed by the fire storm in California.  We live in an uneasy world. It is difficult to find a way to help so many people affected by these tragedies We are lucky to have the 65 club.
The fall festival was a success.  Al Schmidt was at our tables all day and interested many prospects. Bill Brown had a prospective member sign an application on the spot.
Are you ready for change.?  Apple has a new phone.  Electric cars will be more prominent in the future. They are even talking about drones delivering supplies to devastated areas in the future. I think you should have a battery charger for your cell phone should the electric fail. What do you do if the cell tower is out?   If you have a satellite phone you can connect with the rest of the world.  But, where would you go?  I propose we get a back-up electric generator for the club house.  Then, we could come to the club house play cards, party and see each other.
On November 4th we are having a wine and cheese party at the Grace Episcopal community room . The party starts at 7PM. Donations of appetizers or deserts are welcome.
On November 14th there is trip to the Revolutionary War Museum in Philadelphia leaving the Pub at 10 AM.     Call Bill Brown at 856 459 4368 to see if a seat is available.

5K Juvenile Diabetes Run – Saturday Nov 25th
The Haddonfield 65 Club will provide marshals this year for the Haddon Township Juvenile Diabetes 5K Run. The 5K Heart Run with which we have been associated for years was cancelled this year, thus the change. The Run is scheduled for November 25th. All members who are able to help out should meet at the 65 Club, 110 Rhoads Ave at 8:00 am. Ron Howley will provide maps and assign corners at that time. This is a slightly larger race than those in the past and as a result we need about 27 volunteers.
It is a long tradition of the 65 Club to provide marshals for this type of event. The goal is to help the community and assure safety for the runners at street crossings. Please call Ron Howley at 428-0191 to volunteer as soon as you can. We need to be sure that we have a sufficient number of marshals to cover the race.

Annual Christmas Party – Dec 14th
The 65 Club will hold its annual Christmas Party at the Methodist Church on Warwick Rd. at 12:30, on Thursday, December 14th. The guest speaker will be Rev. Christina Lelache, Associate Pastor for Nurture at the Haddonfield Methodist Church. This event is for members and spouses. This year we are asking our members to bring either an appetizer, or dessert to share, in addition to a small gift for a long-term health-care patient at the Elmwood Hills Healthcare Center in Turnersville, NJ.  No need to wrap them as they will be opened and examined by the hospital staff. The use of holiday bags is encouraged. Please do not include any candy or food, or medical items. These gifts will be transported to the hospital after the party.

A Shopper's Tale
On October 7 I visited Wegmans to pick up a container of salad bar fixings. I went to a check-out line with a sign which said "7 or fewer items". Two people were ahead of me, including a lady with 50 items, maybe more. Obviously, she had a problem, she avoided reading signs that said "7 or fewer items".
The stocky gentleman behind her and in front of me had several large containers of doughnuts, with red, white and blue icing and small American flags protruding from each doughnut. We started talking.  He said he, with others, was sponsoring a golf tournament that day for disabled American veterans (who had lost limbs in wars), and was grateful for the opportunity.  I asked him if he was a veteran.  He said "no".  He, named Frank, asked me if I was a veteran.  Kiddingly I replied: "Yes, of the Civil War."  He looked at me a bit startled.  "Are you really that old?" he asked. I said I was only kidding, but that I served stateside during the Vietnam War.
"Well, I am going to buy your salad. You served. That's important," said Frank. I protested. Frank insisted.
Meanwhile, the young girl at the register was ringing up Frank's doughnut order, but for whatever the reason, she kept coming up with a total of $440, not including my salad.  She was finally rescued from her trauma by a supervisor, who rang up the right total.  I asked her how long she had been working there.  She said about a year.  I thought to myself this on-the-job training at Wegmans really takes a lot longer than it should.
Frank paid for his doughnuts and my salad. I told Frank I was appreciative, and would go home and tell my wife about this wonderful gentleman named Frank and his "pay-it-forward" deed.  I told Frank he was doing God's work.  "Thank you," said Frank.
Driving home I thought to myself maybe I should not be so cynical or skeptical about my fellow human beings. There are, after all, a lot of great people out there, including Frank
And members of the 65 Club too.                                                                                                      – – Saul Resnick

Nine Important Facts to Remember as You Grow Older:
Number 9 - Death is the number 1 killer in the world.
Number 8 - Life is sexually transmitted.
Number 7 - Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
Number 6 - Men have two emotions: hungry and horny, and they can't tell them apart.  If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich, you have a 50% chance of being right...
Number 5 - Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day.  Teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks, months, maybe years.
Number 4 - Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing.
Number 3 - All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
Number 2 - In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal.

Number 1 - Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers.  What you do today might burn your butt tomorrow.
