President’s Message
NOTE: We have an insatiable appetite for presenters. We rely on the vast experience of our members to satisfy this need by suggesting speakers. So, be on the alert and notify John Cokos (428-3621) if you have any suggestions for speakers.
Here we are in November and Halloween is just behind us as
we are figuring out what to do with all of the leftover candy. October provided
us with some opportunities to get together; the most notable for me was our
trip to the Mercer Museum. I was impressed with the collection of everyday
items from a time when we did more making than buying. However, Fonthill Castle
was over the top for me. The tile designs and colors were beyond what I had
expected. This was a spectacular trip.
On the horizon is cooler weather and a busy schedule for
the remainder of the year. Our wine and cheese social is a great chance to
spend some time with each other and our spouses. We will enjoy some good wine
and cheese thanks to our resident Gourmand, Bill Brown, and some great music.
Don’t forget to invite some friends that you feel would like to become members
and want to get to know more about us.
November, the month in which we celebrate Thanksgiving, is
a wonderful time to focus on spending more time with family and friends, not
just the day, but the whole month.
November is also a month to remind us to take time to give
thanks for all that we have. In this, I include our status, our security,
financial and otherwise, and our relationships with family and others. Our
family shares a meal on Thanksgiving that is very traditional. We have a turkey
stuffed with a stuffing of Bobbie’s choice and the sides are her favorites –
mashed sweet potatoes with walnuts and brown sugar, cranberry sauce, green
beans, etc. Now that the children have left the area, they have their own traditions,
but there is always a turkey on the menu. One other tradition that we struggle
to maintain is “not participating in Black Friday”, spending the time with each
other. Since our family is in other locations, we spend time on the phone or on
Skype/Face-time calls. This year we hope to be at one of the homes, in person.
I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Wine & Cheese Party – Nov 10th
The annual 65 Club Wine and Cheese Party
will be held in the community room at the Episcopal Church, next to the Patco
Parking lot, on Saturday, November 10. Entertainment will commence at 6 PM with
Jack Poupard and his musical group.
At approximately 7 :30, we will be
entertained by Amanda Rose. Travel
through the decades in song with Amanda Rose! Beginning with the 50’s through
the 60’s, along with classic country, showtunes, and concluding with a
patriotic theme. Also, a special segment with audience participation, which
could include TV theme songs, commercials, classic movies songs, Broadway shows
etc. Come enjoy a fun hour with Amanda Rose.
After Amanda completes her performance,
Jack and his group will finish the night by playing our all-time favorites
again.
Cost for this gala event is only $10, per
person, perspective members and their spouse, are welcome without cost. Just be
sure to register their names before the event. If you are so inclined to show
off your culinary skills, appetizers and desserts will be welcomed. Don't
forget, we will also have our 50-50 drawing. We look forward to seeing you
there.
– – Bill Brown.
Next Trip Being Planned for December 11th
At this time, your social committee, trip group, is
considering two Holiday Trips, one is to Doolans in Spring Lake, where a show,
dinner, and dancing will be included; or a trip to a casino in Atlantic City,
with a show, meal, and slot play money will be included in the ticket price.
Thank
you for your patience. The date will be December 11, for either trip. Details
to follow.
The Haddonfield 65 Club will provide marshals again this year for the
Haddon Township Juvenile Diabetes 5K Run. The Run is scheduled for November 24th,
the Saturday after Thanksgiving. All members who are able to help out should
meet at the 65 Club, 110 Rhoads Ave at 8:00 am. Ron Howley will provide maps
and assign corners at that time. This is a slightly larger race than those in
the past and as a result we need about 27 volunteers.
It is a long tradition of
the 65 Club to provide marshals for this type of event. The goal is to help the
community and assure safety for the runners at street crossings. Please call
Ron Howley at 428-0191 to volunteer as soon as you can. We need to be sure that
we have a sufficient number of marshals to cover the race.
