President’s Message
NOTE: We have an insatiable appetite for presenters. We rely on the vast experience of our members to satisfy this need by suggesting speakers. So, be on the alert and notify John Cokos (428-3621) if you have any suggestions for speakers..
Thanksgiving is over. We are finished with the remains of
the meal, turkey salad, turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, etc. Santa has arrived
at Macy’s in New York and we are already hearing holiday music in stores and
malls.
Now we can look forward to the holiday
season and all of the events coming up in December. First off for us is our
Casino trip and the Holiday show at the Tropicana. It is always a good time and
the chance to win more than the cost of the trip is a wonderful expectation.
Some of us have come close.
For me, the month of December contains many
meaningful things. There is the start of winter. The meteorologists peg this as
December 1st, but Astronomers put it at December 21st.
For the rest of us, I think it is the first big snowfall or the first big cold
snap and we have already had the big snowfall on November 15. (I appreciate the
brave souls that came out to our club meeting during the snowstorm.)
In December, there are the sounds of holiday
music just about everywhere we go. A few of my favorites “Jingle Bells”,
“Little Drummer Boy” “Blue, Blue Christmas” and of course “Silent Night”. This is also when I can find the movie “A
Christmas Carol” starring Alistair on TV. That is the version I like. I like
the way Scrooge goes through his “rebirth” from a mean and selfish person into
a person who cares about others as he sees the joy in doing so.
December marks the ending of one year and
gets us ready for the start of a New Year with its cycle of rebirth and
regrowth. After December 21st, the days start to get longer if not
yet warmer, so this marks a kind of rebirth of our natural world. We can expect
that we will have, in a few months, Spring with all of its flowers and warmth.
I wish you and your families a very happy
and safe holiday season.
December also marks the end of our club’s fiscal
year and the time to get in our dues ($20) for the next year. Please don’t
forget…
I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.
– – Al Schmidt

with the heart.”

Dues Are Due
Dues
for 2019 are now due. If you are a guest member (listed in the back of the
directory) you do not pay dues. For all others, dues remain at $20/yr. Please
give your cash or check to the treasurer, Dave Tarditi, at a regular meeting or
mail your check to Haddonfield 65 Club, 110 Rhoads Ave. Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
Wine & Cheese Party Wrap-up
The 2018 Wine and Cheese Party was a rousing success, with
at least 60 participants that night. This was the largest gathering to date.
The gala evening originally was initiated to help recruit new members, but has
turned into an annual festive gathering of 65 Club members and their spouses,
for a fun night out, and good will.
Contributing, to the evenings success, was the melodic
music of Jack Poupard, and his musical cavaliers, who started things off at 6
PM. Following Jack’s group around 7:45 was a talented singer and performer,
13,year old Amanda Rose, who along with her younger sister Emily, entertained
our group with songs from shows and commercials; as well as involving the
audience with TV Themes trivia. Our thanks to Saul Resnick, for bringing this
young lady to our attention.
Speaking of thanks, a great deal of appreciation is directed
to our President, Al Schmidt, who secured the venue, set up the tables,
devised, promotional flyers and ran them off, and worked tirelessly through the
evening keeping everyone happy, and solving problems as they arose. In addition,
Henry Leimkuhler was heavily involved in setting things up prior to the arrival
of our first guests.
As the last guests were departing, a group of attractive
spouses, jumped into action, without being asked to finalize the cleanup, sorry
I didn’t get a chance to identify you, or thank you.
It was not a profitable night for the club, but it was a
rich night in fellowship.
– – Bill Brown.

Thank you everyone who
participated in providing a great golf season. Thank you to those who helped
organize the outings, or stood in when I was on vacation, or who assisted
week to week with calling or keeping track of the Handicaps. And thank you to
all those who played with your cooperation and friendship.
I hope to see
everyone at our next outing, Wednesday, April 3, 2019,
