President’s Message
Composing Editor: Bernie Schaming
Time certainly
flies when you're having fun. One month into my year as president and it feels
like yesterday. The month started out at the Scottish Rights ballroom where
many of our members attended to celebrate Al Schmidt's Freedom Medal award.
Almost 400 hundred people attended in January to honor 18 recipients of this
most prestigious award. Oh My! Another surprise, as members found a new 50-inch
TV had been delivered to our clubhouse by an anonymous donor. WOW! On February
5, a group of us attended a tour at Yards, their new brew house in
Philadelphia. We learned how beer is made, bottled, or canned as well as stored
in 15-gallon kegs kept in a huge refrigerated room. Since they also had a
restaurant, we had a chance to sample their beverages and enjoy the excellent
food. I had the bratwurst with kraut. That might not have been the most
exciting item on the menu but it also was something I was never going to get at
home. On Valentine’s Day many of us stayed after our meeting to help fill Snack
Packs for family members at the Ronald McDonald House. These little snack packs
go a long way when loved ones are sick and Mom and Dad won't leave to eat a
meal. A heartfelt thank you to those who stayed and helped. And, by the way, an
anonymous donor picked up the tab for the cost.
There has been
a change in the Friendship committee. Don Beck has stepped down. The job is so
encompassing that the new committee will include Henry Leimkuhler, Al Schmidt
and Walt Baker. Many thanks to Don for his incredibly hard work.
Saul Resnick
is killing it as 1st VP. He is bringing in a never-ending group of
the most interesting guest speakers. He has lined up TV personalities, authors,
bakers, and I think even a candle stick maker. OK not that yet. If nothing
else, a visit on Thursdays for the weekly guest speaker is a must.
Frank Lodge
our new 2nd VP has been working diligently to upgrade and bring into
the 21st century our application procedure and make better use of
social media and online exposure for potential new 65 Club members.
Football is over, March Madness is
upon us and baseball beckons. Although the chill is still in the air the colors
of spring are just about to explode. Can't wait!

Dues,
Dues, Dues!
Recently,
board members called all those who have not paid their dues. As a result, many checks
have been received. However, there are still 21 members who have not yet paid
their 2019 dues. If you receive a letter and believe that you have already paid
your dues, please notify our treasurer, David Tarditi at 856-354-0647. The letter is the final notice prior to
removing you from our membership role as we publish this year’s directory. If
you have not paid yet, please mail to or drop off your $20 check (made out to
the Haddonfield 65 Club) at the clubhouse located at 110 Rhoads Ave., Haddonfield
NJ

Snack Packing Event for Ronald McDonald House
On
February 14th after the regular business meeting, 65 Club members
packed 100 bags with snacks for family members staying at the Ronald McDonald
House in Camden. Each bag contained a drink, fruit cup, crackers, cookies candy,
napkin and spoon. Thank you to the many members who participated in this
charitable event. With the number of men who helped, it only took about 20
minutes to complete. Also, many thanks to the anonymous member who donated the
cost of the goodies. Following the packing, Henry Leimkuhler and Bill Brown
delivered the bags to Camden. This may well become an annual activity for the club.
65 Club to Visit Yards Brewery – February 5th
The tour and
lunch at Yards Brewery were enjoyed by all who attended. The tour was very
informative and the food at the on-site restaurant was very good. If you were
not able to go on the trip, it is worth a visit. Yards Brewery was founded by
Haddonfield native Tom Kehoe and is now widely distributed in NY, PA NJ and DE.
Their current facility is capable of producing 240,000 barrels per year.

Position Opening
We still are in
need of someone to take on the job of secretary for the club. If you have interest
in participating in an active role in the club but aren’t sure what is involved,
feel free to contact our current secretary, Bernie Schaming, to discuss what is
involved. The sooner we can fill the position the
better so that there is adequate time to transfer records and knowledge. Since
maintaining the database for the 65 Club is one of the responsibilities, familiarity
with database software and email is necessary.
There is a
story about four people named Somebody, Everybody, Anybody and Nobody. There
was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do
it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that
because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but
Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up with Everybody
blaming Somebody, when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. – – Anonymous
